How does IPL hair removal work?
A fully trained clinician will apply a specially designed hand peice that mateches with your skin type and hair colour for maxiumum results. IPL uses light to penetrate the skin. The light heats up the folicles and destroys the hair from the roots. The hair remains in the follicle and takes 2-3 weeks to fall out, but its important to not wax or pluck the hair to ensure best results.
How Many Sessions will I need?
You will need around 6-10 sessions, with treatment intervals 4-6 weeks apart. Once you have completed your sessions, you can look forward to a lifetime of soilky smooth skin, requiring only an occasionaly maintance treatment.

What can I expect after IPL? Does it Hurt?
The hair will take 2-3 weeks to fall out. It is important that this happen on its own.
No it does not hurt, but common side effects that should be considered normal are:
- Redness and mild swelling around the hair follicle
- A sunburn-like feeling
- Itch or dry skin
What about after care? What do I need to do?
It is important to avoid the sun, and to keep the skin cool, so avoid saunas, intense exercise, and hot water. Avoiding harsh chemicals like chlorine in pools and spas is also important. Your clinician will advise on what aftercare soothing gel to use, but for immediate releif, cool running water or a wrapped icepack will help cool the skin if discomfort arises. Avoid use of any creams, gels or products that have AHA, BHA or Vitamin A in them.
Important Pre Treatment Information
It is important to avoid the following on the treatment area and surrounds prior to treament to ensure safety and efficacy
- Any sun exposure or fake tan on the area requiring treatment up to 2 weeks prior.
- Any anti-wrinkle treaments in the past 2 weeks (e.g. Botox Dysport)
- Any creams or gels with Vitamin A, AHA, BHA for 3 days pror
- No waxing, plucking, threading, or dilapidatory cream
Throughout your treatment course it is essentail to advise your treatment provider of any of the following to ensure the safety and efficacy of the treatment:
- Any new health condition or if you have been unwell
- Commencing new medication, inlcluding short term doses
- Changes to current medication or supplements
- If you are trying to become pregnant
